Underground High Pressure Dewatering Piping

Fire Protection Systems in Mining

In mining, risk is always present, but smart, compliant infrastructure helps reduce it. At Patrick Mechanical Ltd., we bring precision, expertise, and certified mechanical solutions to essential systems that protect lives and assets underground.

This includes the installation of firewater systems, a critical part of mining safety. Recently, our team completed a firewater pumphouse floor installation as part of a large-scale mining project in Northern Ontario. It’s one more example of how we help clients meet regulatory requirements while ensuring long-term performance and safety.

Why Firewater Systems Matter in Remote Mines

Fire emergencies in mines pose serious risks, especially in isolated or deep-underground environments. Firewater systems provide the first line of defense, delivering water quickly to suppress fire and protect people, equipment, and operations.

In this installation, PML supported the fire protection system’s foundation, ensuring the pumphouse infrastructure was properly set to handle pressure-rated piping and long-term structural integrity.

We brought in our certified trades to manage floor assembly, embedded piping supports, and mechanical connections, all coordinated with other contractors on a tight schedule.

Built to Code, Certified for Safety

Our work is backed by an extensive list of TSSA-authorized certifications, ensuring every mechanical installation meets or exceeds industry standards. For firewater systems, this includes:

  • Power Piping Installation (ASME B31.1) – TSSA QA-01700
  • Process Piping Installation (ASME B31.3) – TSSA QA-01701
  • Boiler & Pressure Vessel Repair/Alteration – TSSA QA-01702

These certifications authorize PML to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair pressure-rated piping and associated systems in both shop and field settings. Whether it’s a mine site, institutional project, or industrial plant, we follow the CSA B51 Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code to the letter.

Solving Challenges in Remote Project Environments

Remote mining sites introduce unique challenges, tight access, weather delays, and strict coordination across multiple trades. We plan around those variables, working with on-site managers to ensure every step, from material delivery to final inspection, happens on time and in scope.

Because we handle fabrication and installation under one roof, we eliminate costly back-and-forth and deliver turnkey solutions, even in the most demanding conditions.

A Partner in Industrial Fire Protection

For over 35 years, Patrick Mechanical Ltd. has supported mining and industrial clients across Northern Ontario. Our approach combines certified mechanical expertise with boots-on-the-ground problem-solving.

Whether you’re upgrading fire protection infrastructure or building new facilities, we bring deep knowledge, tight coordination, and a commitment to safety that goes beyond code compliance.

Firewater systems demand more than installation, they require trusted execution.
